It was Sokratis’ goal for Greece in stoppage time at the end of the second half that forced the game into overtime. A scoreless overtime led to the dreaded penalty shootout. It was the crucial saves of Costa Rica’s goal-keeper, Navas, which denied Greece 2 penalties, allowing Costa Rica to advance. They now face Netherlands in the quarter-finals.
